
Bridgett, Burgess Punch Tickets to NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Redshirt-sophomore A'nan Bridgett and redshirt-junior Taj Burgess of Rutgers track and field punched their tickets to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships set for June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon. Overall, a total of 12 Scarlet Knights qualified across 10 events for the NCAA East Regional hosted in Jacksonville, Florida.

Bridgett advanced to Nationals in the long jump, recording a season-best mark of 7.70m (25' 3.25") to finish fourth at the East Regional.

Burgess qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter on Friday, clocking a time of 45.94 to finish in the Top 12 in the East Region. In the first round on Wednesday, he posted a PR of 45.55.
Redshirt-senior Alivia Ash, the Big Ten silver medalist in the high jump, recorded a personal-best mark of 1.77m (5' 9.75"). Redshirt-junior Courteney Campbell registered an identical height of 1.77m (5' 9.75") in high jump for RU, as both Scarlet Knights finished in the Top 15 of the East.
Redshirt-freshman Claudine Smith recorded a personal record of 12.58m (41' 3.25"), finishing Top 25 in the East. Redshirt-sophomore Alexa Gardner recorded a mark of 43.56m (142' 11") in the javelin throw to round out the women's performances at Regionals.
On the men's side, redshirt-senior Perry Christie finished in the Top 25 of the East in the high jump, clearing a height of 2.11m (6' 11"). In the javelin, freshman Steve Coponi registered a mark of 63.74m (209' 1") and redshirt-freshman Joshua Mather, the Big Ten silver medalist in the event, recorded a throw of 63.63m (208' 9"). Redshirt-junior Adam Hunt represented Rutgers in the discus throw, recording a mark of 52.63m (172' 8").
