Incoming Scarlet Knight Emily Mason named New Jersey's best high school girls soccer player
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Incoming Scarlet Knight Emily Mason has been named the 2020-21 New Jersey Girls Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year. The defender/midfielder out of Hunterdon Central Regional High School earns the award for the second straight season, having been tabbed the 2019-20 New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year and National Gatorade Player of the Year.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Mason as New Jersey's best high school girls soccer player.
Mason is now a finalist to repeat as the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year, which is to be announced in June. She joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Rutgers men's soccer letterwinner Alexi Lalas and USWNT standouts Abby Wambach and Heather O'Reilly.
The Flemington, New Jersey, native scored six goals and passed for three assists in 2020-21, leading the Red Devils (12-3) to the Group IV, Central West C tournament semifinals. A member of the U.S. Soccer Under-20 Women's National Team, Mason is a two-time United Soccer Coaches High School All-American.
