Men’s Basketball to Travel to DePaul in 2021 Gavitt Tipoff Games

Road Contest to Take Place Thursday, November 18
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's basketball will have a road game at DePaul on Thursday, November 18th in the sixth annual Gavitt Tipoff Games.
The Gavitt Tipoff Games is a unique early-season series played between the two conferences and named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and basketball visionary. Game times and television information will be announced at a later date, with games appearing on FS1 or BTN.
Rutgers will be competing in the Gavitt Games for the fourth time in the event's history, and first time since 2018, with the event not contested last season. The Scarlet Knights are 1-2 in Gavitt Games matchups, previously defeating DePaul 66-59 in 2016 in head coach Steve Pikiell's first road win as head coach of the Scarlet Knights. RU has also faced St. John's twice in the event.
Rutgers leads the all-time series against DePaul 7-4. Following the victory in the 2016 Gavitt Games matchup, the Scarlet Knights have claimed six of the last eight victories in the series, including three of the last four road contests.
DePaul will be led next season by first year head coach Tony Stubblefield. The Blue Demons went 5-14 last season, with a 2-13 conference record in BIG EAST play. The team capped their season with a conference tournament victory over Providence. DePaul is 2-3 all-time in the event.
The Scarlet Knights went 16-12 overall last season en route to the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 30 years, which RU validated with the team's first NCAA Tournament victory since 1983. Rutgers has had back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1990-91 and 1991-92 and won double-digit conference games in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1989-90 and 1990-91.
The Big Ten previously announced the Scarlet Knights' conference opponents for the 2021-22 season. Additionally, Rutgers will face Seton Hall in the Garden State Hardwood Classic on December 12.
