MADISON, Wis. – Rutgers women's golf finished the second round of the Badger Invitational, contested on Tuesday in Madison, Wisconsin. Sophomore
Rikke Nordvik moved up 15 spots on the leaderboard and is tied for 29th heading into tomorrow's final round.
"I drove the ball well today off the tee and that helped me feel really comfortable with my approach shots," Nordvik said. "My game was steady from the start and tomorrow I'll look to capitalize on more scoring opportunities."
Battling morning rain and 15-mile-per-hour wind gusts, the Scarlet Knights moved to 11th with their 621 (317-304). Wisconsin is in the lead with a three-over-par 579 (283-296), followed by Old Dominion (+5) and Washington State (+9). Three individuals - Emily Lauterbach (Wisconsin), Jana Melichova (Old Dominion) and Leah Onosato (Old Dominion) - lead the field at three under.
Nordvik finished with a two-over-par 74 and is tied for 29th with her seven-over-par 151 (77-74). Junior
Leigha Devine also enjoyed strong movement up the leaderboard, as he moved up 17 positions to tied for 38th with a nine-over-par 153 (79-74). Devine produced 12 pars and back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16.
"Rikke and Leigha bounced back for us today in this round," said head coach
Kari Williams. "Leigha was able to take advantage of more scoring opportunities out there and Rikke struck the ball consistently from start to finish. We have another chance to come out tomorrow and improve our play."
Junior
Sun Hwang also remained within the top 50, as she is tied for 45th with a 10-over-par 154 (78-77). Senior
Maeve Rossi (162: 83-79) and rookie
Lucrezia Rossettin (80) rounded out the team scorecard. Rossettin was disqualified from yesterday's opening round due to signing a wrong scorecard.
Tuesday's final round begins at 10 a.m. ET.
