PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's basketball play-by-play announcer Jerry Recco was named the N.J. Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association, it was announced Tuesday.

Recco, the morning updates anchor on sports radio station WFAN in New York City, is in his sixth season as men's basketball play-by-play announcer with the Rutgers IMG Sports Radio Network since starting with the Scarlet Knights in 2016-17. Recco is a key member of the "Boomer and Gio Show" on WFAN with Boomer Esiason and Greg Gionnotti. He has become a staple in the tri-state area's sports media market and one of the leading voices for Rutgers Athletics.
He has had hundreds of memorable calls through his career with the program including calling RU's first NCAA Tournament victory in 30 years over Clemson on March 20, 2021, and narrating Ron Harper Jr's game-winning shot over No. 1 Purdue on Dec. 9 of this season.
He also serves as a podcast host for the Pikiell Podcast on all Rutgers platforms. Born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey, he has also served as the radio play-by-play voice of Columbia Lions football since 2006.
Recco received a BA in Media Arts from Jersey City State College and began his career at WFAN as an intern before quickly moving up the station ranks. He also spent time covering the New York Giants in 2004 and the covering the New York Jets in 2007 and 2008.
He is WFAN's Super Bowl reporter, having covered the last five. Recco currently serves as the studio host for Compass Media Networks' presentation of the Dallas Cowboys. Recco, his wife Kim and their sons Matthew and Joseph, currently reside on the Jersey Shore.

nd awards weekend and national convention, scheduled for June 25-27, 2022, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
