Gymnastics Travels to Maryland for Big Ten Dual Meet

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers gymnastics travels to Maryland for its first Big Ten matchup of the year on Saturday, Jan. 22. The dual meet will begin at 12 p.m. ET live on Big Ten Network+. Follow @RUGymnastics on Twitter for live score updates from the meet.
Rutgers hosted No. 21 NC State, North Carolina and New Hampshire, claiming victories over UNC and UNH with a team score of 194.550. The Scarlet Knights extended win streaks of three straight against both the Tar Heels and the Wildcats.
RU posted a total of nine top three finishes and a number of career-highs, as fifth-year senior Belle Huang led the way with a career-high and first-place 9.950 on floor. Huang also finished third on beam with a 9.875 and on vault with a 9.850.
The Scarlet Knights recorded the third best team vault score in program history with a 49.150 in their home opener. Senior Mia Betancourt recorded a career-high 9.850 in the event, while junior Hannah Joyner and Huang each added a 9.850 as well. Sophomore Emily Leese posted a 9.825, while freshman Isabella Hughes added a 9.775.
Huang has eclipsed a 9.9 or higher on floor eight times, adding a career-high of 9.950 to tie for second on the Rutgers career charts. Courtney Turner holds the Rutgers record with a 10.000 in the event. The captain owns a total of 13 career 9.9s across beam and floor, the second-most of any RU gymnast and most on floor. Huang is tied for seventh nationally in the event with an NQS of 9.925.
Freshmen Elia Aird and Brayden Battavio made their collegiate debuts in the home opener for RU. A total of six newcomers have entered the lineups for the Scarlet Knights, including freshmen Maya Jones, Anna Pagliaro, Hughes, and sophomore transfer Gianna Ortiz.
