Jan 26 | Wrestling
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling (12-4, 2-4) is No. 15 in the country in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, released Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights are also No. 14/17 (tournament/dual) by Intermat and No. 14/19 (tournament/dual) by FloWrestling heading into the final month of the regular season.
First Coaches' Rankings Released
The NCAA released the first coaches' rankings of the 2021-22 season. The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the seven conferences. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have five Division I matches in the weight class to be considered with at least one within the last 30 days.
Rivera Remains Dominant
Sebastian Rivera (141) moved to 18-0 on the season with all of his wins coming on bonus. The graduate student owns a nation-best 11 tech falls, which include tech falls in his past five matches. Rivera is the consensus No. 3 individual in the country at 141 pounds by Intermat, FloWrestling and The Open Mat.
Bulsak, Poznanski Top-10
Despite losses over the weekend, John Poznanski (184) and Greg Bulsak (197) remained within the top-10 of their respective weight classes. Both are No. 7 by Intermat and No. 8 by The Open Mat, while Poznanski is No. 6 at 184 pounds by FloWrestling.
