
No. 14 Wrestling Heads to Detroit for 2022 NCAA Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 14 Rutgers wrestling sends seven student-athletes to the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships, held March 17-19 in Detroit. Dylan Shawver (125), Joseph Olivieri (133), Sebastian Rivera (141), Michael VanBrill (149), Connor O'Neill (174), John Poznanski (184) and Greg Bulsak (197) will all vie for national championships and podium spots during the three-day tournament at Little Caesars Arena.
The seven Scarlet Knights at NCAAs mark the most for the program at the national tournament since the 2017 campaign and makes it five or more national qualifiers for the eighth consecutive season under head coach Scott Goodale.

| WHAT TO KNOW: RUTGERS |
- RU qualified seven to nationals after its performance at the 2022 Big Ten Wrestling Championships from March 5-6 in Lincoln, Nebraska in its last time out. Rivera (sixth), VanBrill (sixth), Bulsak (seventh), Shawver (seventh) and O'Neill (eighth) placed at the conference championships, while Olivieri and Poznanski wrestled to automatic bids in their respective weight classes.
- RU looks to secure two or more All-Americans for the seventh consecutive season. Rutgers put a program-record three on the podium last March, as Poznanski (4th, 184), Rivera (4th, 141), John and Jackson Turley (8th, 174) all earned All-America laurels in St. Louis.
- The Scarlet Knights also look to secure a national semifinalist for the sixth consecutive tournament. Poznanski and Rivera advanced to the championship semifinals last March en route to fourth-place results.
- Rivera is the No. 3 seed for the second consecutive NCAA Championships as he looks to secure the first national championship of his career. Rivera is a perfect 24-0 this season with 23 wins by bonus.
- Bulsak and Rivera will compete in their fourth-career NCAA Championships this weekend. Poznanski and Rivera will wrestle in their second NCAAs while Olivieri, O'Neal and Shawver will make their first NCAA appearances of their careers.

- Rivera enters his final NCAA Championships as one of the tournament's most decorated participants. During his collegiate career, Rivera has locked up four All-American laurels, which includes two podium finishes at Northwestern and one at Rutgers. Rivera was also named a First Team All-American by the NWCA after the 2020 NCAA Championships were cancelled due to COVID-19.
- Rivera is the No. 3 seed at NCAAs for the second consecutive season. Its the fourth consecutive season Rivera has locked up a top-four seed at the national tournament, as he's also been the No. 1 seed during his final two seasons at Northwestern.
- Rivera looks to become the fifth two-time All-American in program history, joining Nick Suriano (2018 & 2019), Anthony Ashnault (2015, 2016, 2017 & 2019), Anthony Perrotti (2014 & 2016) and Anthony Surage (1980 & 1983).
- Rivera enters NCAAs with 109 career victories, which include 73 at Northwestern and 36 at Rutgers. Rivera owns 14 career victories at the national tournament and has advanced to the national semifinals in 2019 and 2021.
