PISCATAWAY, N.J. – It was another run-rule walk-off victory for the Rutgers softball team on Saturday of the Rutgers Softball Tournament. The Scarlet Knights garnered its 20th victory of the 2022 campaign as
Gabrielle Callaway used a walk-off two-run home run for RU to take an 8-0 win over Holy Cross in six innings.
The win improved RU to 4-1 during the weekend and 20-10Â overall.

- Seven different Scarlet Knights scored with sophomore Kyleigh Sand coming across the plate twice bringing her season total to 30 runs scored. She finished the game 1-for-2 along with 2 RBIs.
- Graduate student Gabrielle Callaway collected her team-leading fourth home run of the year finished the contest 1-for-2 with three RBIs.
- Freshman Maddie Lawson went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
- Junior right-hander Ashley Hitchcock improved to 8-8 on the year inside the circle. In her ninth complete game and third shutout of the season, she allowed only two hits and struck out three Crusaders.
- Rutgers got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when the Scarlet Knights loaded the bases allowing a walk by Kyleigh Sand to score Katie Wingert for the 1-0 lead.
- The Scarlet Knights punched in another four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Crusaders walked the first four batters giving Sand another RBI on a walk. The bases remained loaded for Callaway to bring home Taylor Lane on a sacrifice fly and Maddie Lawson cleared the other two bases with a single to shallow right.
- RU snuck in another run in the fifth. Megan Herka flew out to left and the Crusaders managed to catch Katie Wingert at second before tagging up for the double play, but it was enough for Kobie Hura to reach home from third putting the Scarlet Knights up 6-0.
- Sand singled to left to open the bottom of the sixth and two batters later Callaway went over the left-field fence to end the game.
The Rutgers Softball Tournament concludes on Sunday. Action opens with Saint Peter's vs. Stony Brook at 9 a.m., followed by Holy Cross vs. Stony Brook at 11:15 a.m., Holy Cross vs. Saint Peter's at 1:30 p.m. and Rutgers vs. Drexel at 3:45 p.m. Admission to all games at the Rutgers Softball Complex is free.
