EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers tennis dropped a hard-fought, 4-3, final score against Indiana on Sunday at the East Brunswick Racquet Club to close out the 2022 home schedule. Rutgers honored its three members of the Class of 2022 on Senior Day -
Tess Fisher,
Sydney Kaplan, and
Kristiana Zahare.
"Our program thanks the seniors for their hard work and dedication to our team over the last four years," said head coach
Hilary Ritchie. "Our team showed a lot of fight today in a close Big Ten match, so we hope to use that and build some momentum going into the final two regular season matches and the Big Ten Tournament."
Indiana took a closely contested doubles point that came down to a 7-6(7-5) win at the No. 1 spot after spitting at second and third doubles.
Minchae Kim and
Sydney Kaplan won their second doubles match, 6-4, giving Kim her team-leading ninth doubles victory of the year.
Singles opened with a win by retirement for
Jackeline Lopez at second singles while she was up 3-2 in the second set.
Daira Cardenas followed with a strong 6-0, 6-3 victory at sixth singles, then
Minchae Kim put Rutgers up 3-1 with her 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot.
The Hoosiers took first and third singles in straight sets to even the score at 3-3.
Alisa Prinyarux won the first set at fifth singles, 6-3, before Indiana rallied back for the next two sets and the clinching win.
Lopez and Cardenas each improved their team-leading win total to eight apiece, while Kim won her seventh singles match of the year. For Cardenas, it was her second Big Ten win of the season, while Kim grabbed her first.
The Scarlet Knights wrap up the regular season at Penn State on April 22 and at Ohio State on April 24.
