CHICAGO – Rising sophomore Emily Mason of Rutgers women's soccer has been called back to the United States Under-20 Youth National Team for the USA's participation in the Sud Ladies Cup in Aubagne, France from June 16-29.
Mason, who recently won a gold medal with the USWYNT at the Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship in March, returns to the international stage for the four-team Sud Ladies Cup against host France (June 24), along with Mexico (June 26) and the Netherlands (June 28). These will be the final international matches for the U.S. U-20's before head coach Tracey Kevins selects a roster for the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup to be staged from Aug. 10-28 in Costa Rica.
Mason, a Flemington, New Jersey native, started five of seven games for Team USA at the Concacaf U-20 Championships, scoring three goals and an assist. The defender, who was named to the Concacaf U-20 Championship Best XI, helped lock down the defense in seven straight shutouts en route to the title.
In her collegiate debut with the Scarlet Knights in 2021, Mason helped lead Rutgers to its first Big Ten Conference title for the program and University. Following a run to the Big Ten Tournament Championship, the Scarlet Knights earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the College Cup for the second time and first since 2015.
The rookie defender started 18 of 25 matches, including all of the Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments. She posted four assists on the year, helping RU set program records for most goals (64) and assists (62) in a single season as the team outscored opponents 64-17 on the year. Mason and the team posted 13 shutouts overall and five in the undefeated 10-0 league slate, maintaining a GAA of 0.67.
