Temple, Myers, Maeland and Keating find the back of the net to lead RU to victory

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With the most goals in a game since 2017, the Rutgers men's soccer team earned a dominant win over a dominant 5-1 win over UAlbany (1-3-2) on Tuesday night under the lights at Yurcak Field. All five goals came in the second half, as Jackson Temple found the back of the net twice before MD Myers, Ola Maeland and Bryan Keating tacked on scores. Three goal-scorers also aided in other goals, as Temple (2), Myers and Maeland recorded assists.

The Scarlet Knights have now stayed unbeaten through their most recent four games, tying Princeton on Sept. 2 (1-1) and Yale on the 5th (2-2) but defeating Rider on the 9th (2-1).

Rutgers came out hot, taking three shots in the opening six minutes of action. However, it was UAlbany to strike first, scoring the first goal of the contest in 24th minute to take the early 1-0 edge.

The Scarlet Knights dominated the game flow and continued to go to goal though, leading the Great Danes in shots at the end of the first half, 12-2. The team also blanked UAlbany in corners, 3-0.

RU stayed persistent coming out of halftime and it paid off, as Temple recorded back-to-back goals in the 58th and 60th minute to turn the tides and give his team the 2-1 lead. Pablo Avila and Myers each earned assists on the goals, respectively.

The scoring barrage continued as Myers added his own tally in the 73rd minute, this time on an assist from Temple. Just three minutes later, Maeland found the back of the net off another feed from Temple for his first goal of the season.

Finally, in the 87th minute of play, Keating connected with Maeland off the final corner kick of the game to solidify the 5-1 win.

Game Notes

Tuesday's 5-1 decision marks the first time Rutgers has tallied five goals since Sept. 1, 2017, when the team defeated Oral Roberts, 5-3.
In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, Rutgers came out on top to take the edge in the all-time series, 1-0-0.
RU outshot the Great Danes 25-6 and owned the 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.
Keating's goal marks the first of his career in just his second appearance for the Scarlet Knights. The sophomore defender also saw the field earlier this season against Creighton (Aug. 28).
With six goals of the season, Myers has scored in all but two outings this slate. With a pair of assists, he leads the team with 14 points.
With a brace and two assists, Temple's six-point outing marks his career-high in a single game.
Former Philadelphia Union teammates Temple and Myers have come together to account for nine points this fall, including three goals where one scored and the other has earned an assist.
Maeland ranks second on the team with three helpers, behind only Temple (4). With his first goal of the season, and fourth of his career, he also sits third on the team with five points.
Avila secured his second assist of the season on Temple's second goal.
The Scarlet Knights have now seen eight unique goal scorers through six games. Temple and Myers are the only Scarlet Knights with multiple goals.
22 Scarlet Knights saw the pitch on Tuesday night, a season high. Ciaran Dalton led the squad in net, playing all 90 minutes and making one save.

Looking Ahead

In its final contest of its five-game home stand, Rutgers will open Big Ten play against Northwestern on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Yurcak Field (7 p.m.).
