PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers track and field remembers former distance runner and team captain John McNulty, who passed away this past weekend. Affectionally known as Johnny Mac, McNulty was a member of the program from 1975-79 and a graduate of Rutgers in 1979.

"In my 40-plus years of coaching at Rutgers, I never met a more loyal and dedicated man to the program and to his teammates than John," said former head coach Mike Mulqueen. "He will be greatly missed."

After an all-state running career at Nanuet High School, McNulty brought his talents to Rutgers. While at Rutgers, he was a 12-time letterwinner, team captain, and Metropolitan Conference Champion in the steeplechase. He competed in two NCAA national cross country championships and helped his Rutgers team to several Metropolitan team titles.

McNulty also, placed fifth in the USA National Junior Championships in the steeplechase. He continued his running career after graduating from Rutgers, winning many road races, including the prestigious Yonkers Marathon.

McNulty is survived by his wife of over 40 years Suzanne and their two children - son Sean (wife Stephanie Fahs) and daughter Katie (husband Steven Wilcox).

There will be a viewing beginning at 10 a.m. and immediately followed by a mass at 11:30 a.m. A repast (luncheon) will follow mass at 12:30 p.m. in the church Great Hall. If you are planning to stay for the repast (luncheon) at 12:30 pm, please indicate the number of people who will join us for lunch.
