United Soccer Coaches have selected Emily Mason (SecondTeam) and Riley Tiernan (Third Team) to the All-North Region Teams
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer has two student-athletes on the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Teams for the 2023 season. Juniors Emily Mason (Second Team) and Riley Tiernan (Third Team) are the Scarlet Knights' Regional All-Americans.
Mason earns her second Regional All-America honor, while Tiernan grabs her third in as many collegiate seasons. The pair of All-Region selections led Rutgers to its 12th consecutive berth into the NCAA Tournament this fall.
Emily Mason again anchored a stellar defense in 2023 that posted 10 team shutouts. A constant presence in the back, Mason played the full 90 in all of Rutgers' 10 regular season Big Ten matches, which included five victories and four shutouts by the defense. The backs allowed four or less shots on goal in 10 matches, including the final four of the regular season.
Riley Tiernan scored three goals and added four assists in the regular season, while also drawing the eye of double-teams and opposing coaching plans throughout her 20-match campaign. She played at least 85 minutes in all 10 Big Ten matches, while netting a goal in the win against Michigan and assists in the win against Purdue and the draw at Nebraska. Tiernan will enter her senior season tied for 4th all-time at Rutgers with 23 career assists and seven away from setting a new all-time record "On the Banks."
