Langejans adds to lengthy list of awards with NFHCA recognition
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers' field hockey's Iris Langejans added another award Thursday to an ever-growing list recognizing her outstanding play in the 2023 season. The Scarlet Knight was named the Regional Player of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NFHCA.
Langejans was one of five student-athletes to represent their respective regions and remains in the running for NFHCA National Player of the Year. Langejans joins former RU goalkeeper Gianna Glatz, who was named the Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year following the spring 2021 season, as the two RU players to earn the accolade since the Regional Player of the Year award started being given out in 2010.
Langejans was most recently one of six different RU players to be recognized on the Mid-Atlantic All-Regional Team as a First Team Selection. She was joined there on the First Team by teammates Puck Winter and Guillermina Causarano, with Sophia Howard, Ava Cickavage and Paulina Niklaus all on the Second Team).
Langejans was also previously named the Big Ten Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the Big Ten's First Team. The native of Almelo, Netherlands impacted the game at all levels this season, starting all 20 games at back, where she helped RU allow just 1.4 goals per game. She added one goal and six assists this season, and the redshirt senior has five goals and 15 assists in her 61 game Rutgers career. Langejans was also selected for the NFHCA's Senior Game.
For her career, she is a two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection, and last year was also named First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American. This year's All-American teams will be named next week.
