PISCATWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse will play three home games on national television this season. The Scarlet Knights' matchups with Northwestern (April 6), Stony Brook (April 12) and Ohio State (April 20) will all broadcast on Big Ten Network. BTN will also carry the semifinals and finals of the Big Ten Tournament, held May 4-6 in Columbus.
RU's 15-game 2023 campaign features nine opponents who qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament and six games against Big Ten foes.
The Scarlet Knights' out-of-conference slate includes dates against 2022 NCAA qualifiers Jacksonville (Feb. 12), Princeton (March 1), Stony Brook (April 12), Vermont (April 15) and James Madison (April 23). RU is also set to face NCAA Final Four participants Maryland (March 18) and Northwestern (April 6), as well as NCAA at-large selections Michigan (March 24) and Johns Hopkins (April 1).
In total, Rutgers faces nine opponents who appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament and nine who either appeared or received votes in the final 2022 IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Scarlet Knights will play seven times at home and will also face Penn State (March 13) in a neutral-site contest at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Six of this season's seven home opponents appeared in the national rankings at least once last season.
Ranked as high as No. 7 in preseason polls, Rutgers returns three All-Americans – Meghan Ball, Marin Hartshorn and Cassidy Spilis – from last year's squad. Under reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year Lehman, RU enjoyed its most successful season in school history with a program-record 16 victories in 2022, its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and the team's first top-10 finish in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll (No. 10). The Scarlet Knights delivered wins over six ranked opponents during the 2022 campaign and advanced to their first ever Big Ten Tournament title game with their victory over No. 4 Northwestern – the team's first over the Wildcats and highest-ranked win in school history.
Rutgers opens its season Sunday, Feb. 12 at No. 19 Jacksonville.
