
Men's Basketball to Host Georgetown in Gavitt Tipoff Games

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's basketball will host Georgetown on Wednesday, Nov. 15 for this year's Gavitt Tipoff Games matchup at Jersey Mike's Arena the two conferences announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Television information and times for each game will be announced at a later date, with games scheduled to appear on either FS1 or Big Ten Network.
The Gavitt Tipoff Games is a unique early-season series played between the Big Ten and the Big East Conferences and is named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt, founder of the Big East and basketball visionary. 2023 will mark the eighth year of the event.
Scheduled through 2022, the Gavitt Tipoff Games are to be played on consecutive days in the first full week of the college basketball season. According to the conferences, the 2023 Gavitt Games are a make-up from the Gavitt Games canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Each Big East team will participate a minimum of six times, while Big Ten programs will take part a minimum of four times. Teams from both conferences already meet in some traditional rivalry games, and those matchups will continue in the upcoming seasons.
Rutgers History in the Gavitt Games
Rutgers is (1-3) all time in the Gavitt Tipoff Games. The Scarlet Knights last played in the Gavitt Games during the 2021-22 season, when RU visited DePaul and was defeated in the final seconds at WinTrust Arena in Chicago.
Rutgers has only faced two opponents in the history of Gavitt Games (DePaul and St. John's). Rutgers hasn't hosted a Gavitt Games matchup at Jersey Mike's Arena since 2018.
History with Georgetown
Rutgers is (16-29) all-time against Georgetown. The last Scarlet Knights victory over the Hoyas came on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, when RU defeated No. 7/8 Georgetown 71-68 on Valentine's Day at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.
The Scarlet Knights were (13-13) against the Hoyas in the first 26 matchups prior to the year 2001. RU is (3-16) in the last 19 matchups against the Hoyas since 2001.
