May 04 | Softball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers softball head coach Kristen Butler was named to the University of Florida's all-time starting lineup.
Named one of the Gator's greatest softball players of all-time in celebrating their 25th season of play in 2021 and the 2006 SEC Player of the Year, Butler was a catcher with the Florida program from 2003-06 setting the program's single-season home run record (17) which still ranks among the top ten in the category today and continues to hold the record for runners caught stealing (22) in a season, as well as the career record for most runners caught stealing (61). Butler has the second-lowest stolen base-against percentage in Florida history and set the single-season record for lowest stolen bases against average, allowing only 16 steals in 35 attempts in 2003.
Now in her fifth season at the helm of the Scarlet Knight program, Butler has also guided Rutgers to several notable accomplishments. In her first season "On The Banks" in 2019, RU hit a program-record 54 home runs, made a return to the Big Ten Tournament and qualified for its first postseason appearance since 1996 with an automatic bid to the National Invitational Softball Championships. The Scarlet Knights returned to the NISC in 2022 and garnered its first First Team All-Big Ten honorees. This season, Rutgers won its first eight-straight games for the best start to a season since 1980 and has accumulated 31 wins heading into the final regular season weekend for the most wins for the program since 1994. Under her tutelage, Rutgers has earned 10 Big Ten Player of the Week honors, three All-Big Ten selections and five all-region picks.
