MBB to Face Princeton and Mississippi State in 2023-24 Non-Conference Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's basketball team has announced two marquee neutral site games for its 2023-24 non-conference schedule.

The Scarlet Knights will take on the Princeton Tigers in the inaugural 2023 Jersey Jam on November 6, 2023, at CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, N.J. to open the highly anticipated 2023-24 season.

RU will take on Mississippi State in a second neutral site contest on December 23 at the Prudential Center in Newark N.J., marking the 2023 Gotham Classic.

Tickets will be available to purchase for Rutgers men's basketball season ticket members on Wednesday. Tickets will be available for general public purchase on Thursday.

"We are so excited to open up our 2023-24 season schedule against Princeton," Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell said. "This is a matchup between two teams from the great state of New Jersey with a ton of history. We look forward to a great matchup in Trenton.

"We are also looking forward to another marquee non-conference opponent in Mississippi State in Newark," Pikiell added. "These are two great games against competitive opponents that will prepare our team for the gauntlet of the Big Ten Conference schedule ahead."

Princeton is fresh off a successful season in which the team won the 2023 Ivy League Championship. The conference title sent the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament where they knocked off second-seed Arizona, and seventh-seed Missouri before falling to sixth-seed Creighton in the Sweet Sixteen.

The Scarlet Knights and Princeton Tigers basketball programs first met back in 1917 and have met 120 times through the years with the series standing at 75-45 in Princeton's favor.

Most notably, Rutgers faced Princeton in the first round of the 1976 NCAA Tournament where they defeated the Tigers 54-53. Both programs are coming off their best stretch in decades and represent the best that New Jersey basketball has to offer. RU has won 11 out of the last 15 meetings with Princeton dating back to 2000.

Mississippi State is fresh off a 21-13 record in 2022-23. The Bulldogs finished 8-10 in SEC action each of the last three seasons. The Bulldogs made the NCAA Tournament last March but were eliminated by Pittsburgh in the First Four, 60-59 in Dayton, Ohio.

The Scarlet Knights and Bulldogs have played each other once. RU came away with a 74-69 win on November 27, 1999, in St. Charles, Missouri. Mississippi State is 8-8 all-time against the Big Ten Conference. Scarlet Knights forward, Aundre Hyatt is the lone player on the Rutgers roster to have experience playing against Miss. State in his time at LSU and owns a 3-0 record against them. The Bulldogs will be the first SEC opponent to face off against RU since 2014, when the Scarlet Knights defeated Vanderbilt 68-65 at the Barclays Center.
