Scarlet Knights Improve to 8-0 with 2-0 Win over La Salle
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 10 Rutgers field hockey played its first home game of the 2023 season, and the result was just as positive as during its season opening road trip. The Scarlet Knights defeated La Salle, 2-0, to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Rutgers' goals were provided by Carly Snarski and Puck Winter. Sophia Howard had her second straight shutout in net.
RU controlled much of the play in the game. The home team outshot the Explorers, 15-7, and had a 9-1 advantage in corners.
Rutgers struck first in the early minutes of the second quarter. Guillermina Causarano started the offensive play, carried the ball to the goalkeeper's left. She slotted a pass across to Snarski, who lifted the ball into the net for the game's first tally.
RU's insurance tally came late, with just over five minutes to play in the game. A corner opportunity led to a Winter blast from the top of the circle, her team-leading seventh goal of the year. Minutes later, Winter added her team-leading third defensive save of the season to keep the shutout alive.
Up next, RU has just one game next weekend. It comes on the road at No. 18 UMass on Sunday.
The team then returns home, hosting No. 5 Maryland (Sept. 28), Michigan (Oct. 6) and Monmouth in a three-straight home game stretch.
