
Mason’s Early Marker Delivers Women’s Soccer to 1-0 Win Over Purdue

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer (5-4-2, 1-2-0) used a second-minute Emily Mason marker and held on for a 1-0 victory over Purdue (3-7-1, 0-2-1) for its first Big Ten win of the season on a drenched Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.

- It took just 82 seconds for Rutgers to take an early advantage with Riley Tiernan at the corner spot. Her well-placed service found Emily Mason on the far side of the Purdue 18-yard box, where the defender collected and fired off the inside of the near post for her first tally of the 2023 season.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- Olivia Bodmer's six-save shutout started in the 15th minute when she turned away a Lauren Omholt attempt heading inside the near post with a diving stop.
- Bodmer's best highlight of the day to preserve the clean sheet came in the 71st minute as Zoie Allen fired from 25 yards out toward the upper-right 90, but Bodmer sprawled for save to keep the Boilermakers off the board.
- Allison Lowrey missed an insurance goal by inches as a shot past the Purdue keeper dribbled off the post and back into play before it was scooped up by the goalie.
