Men’s Golf Places Fifth at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – Rutgers men's golf places fifth in their first event of the spring today at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate.

Round 3 - Tuesday, February 13th
Xavier Marcoux led Rutgers to a fifth place finish today, with a fifth place tie of his own. Marcoux shot 3-under ending his weekend with a total score of 207 (-9). He was one of only nine golfers out of 99 to finish below par each round. Marcoux's score of 207 for the three days tied the 12th best 54-hole score in school history.

The Scarlet Knights impressive round three of the tournament gave them a top-five finish in the event. Rutgers shot 277 (-11), the second best team of the day. The 11-under par is tied for the fourth-best 18-hole finish in school history. The total score of 277 is tied for the eighth-best 18-hole score in school history.

Martin Leon ended the event in a tie for 21st place. He shot 214 over the three days, his best event as a Scarlet Knight so far.

Rhett Sellers and Luke Wells both tied for 30th place. Sellers led the team with six birdies in the third round while Wells led the team with 14 pars.

Individual participants Logan Paczewski and Derek Rodriguez, along with Marcoux, all had eagles on hole three, giving the Scarlet Knights five eagles in three days.

Round 2 - Monday, February 12th
The Scarlet Knights continued their strong start to the season today. They shot 1-under 287 and stand in fifth place at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate.

Xavier Marcoux impressed again today with a score of 70 (-2). He ended the day in a tie for sixth. Xavier tied with Weston Jones for the team lead in pars today with 14.

Luke Wells and Martin Leon are both tied for 33rd place. Wells was even today with 12 pars while Leon led the team with five birdies.

Freshman Derek Guiterrez, who entered the tournament as an individual, improved in day two. He shot 1-over-par with four birdies and nine pars. 

Round 1 - Sunday, February 11th
Rutgers men's golf had an impressive showing in the first round of their spring season. The Scarlet Knights shot 286 (-2), good for a fifth-place tie in the 16-team field.
 
Xavier Marcoux led the way for Rutgers, ending day one in a third-place tie. He shot 68 (-4) with the help of four birdies and an eagle on hole three.
 
Martin Leon finished at even par for the day in a tie for 26th. He led the team with 12 pars and added three birdies.
 
Luke Wells and Rhett Sellers both ended the day 1-over. They are tied for 39th out of 99 total golfers. Wells led the team with six birdies. Sellers had an eagle on the third hole.
