Scarlet Knights set for four competition weekends, beginning in March
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Following a successful fall season, the Rutgers field hockey program has unveiled its slate for a series of off-season competitions this spring.
The team will begin its spring season with the Big Apple Tournament, which will take place on the first weekend of March. The Scarlet Knights then play three straight weekends in April against other schools.
On April 6, Rutgers will travel to face in-state rival Princeton. The team then hosts two straight weekends, welcoming Albany (April 13) and Syracuse (April 20).
The team announced two new additions to the program this week. Maddie Olshemski joined the squad as a transfer from Indiana. The team also welcomed back Ajai Dhadwal as an assistant coach.
In the fall, Rutgers had a program-record 15-0 start to the campaign. The Scarlet Knights earned a bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the third time since 2018 the Scarlet Knights played in the NCAA Tournament. During the year, RU defeated eight ranked teams. Ultimately, RU finished 6-2 in the Big Ten, tying the program's best ever finish in the league. Rutgers was ranked in every national poll this season, peaking at No. 3 in the nation and were in the top-10 in eight of the 11 polls this season.
The program was well awarded following the year. RU had a program record six all-region selections, five all-Big Ten selections and two All-Americans. Iris Langejans was named Big Ten Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year, and a First Team All-American, while Puck Winter was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a Second Team All-American.
"We learned a lot from last season," head coach Meredith Civico said. "We're really motivated to come back. We'll take our experiences from last season and it will shape what we do moving forward. The team is excited and looking forward about the future and seeing what we can do."
