CHERRY HILL, N.J. – No. 14 Rutgers rowing opened the 2024 season on Saturday on the Cooper River in the Big Ten/Ivy League Dust Up against boats from No. 5 Yale, No. 8 Penn, No. 11 Ohio State, No. 12 Syracuse, and No. 19 Harvard.
The Scarlet Knights grabbed a race victory in the day's second session with the Second Varsity 4 placing first in 8:11.0 ahead of Harvard and Penn.
"It was great to see our team get out on the race course to race over 2,000 meters for the first time this spring," said head coach Justin Price. "I'm proud of the effort and attitude with which we raced today and it will be fun to see how much we can improve in the coming weeks. This group embraces challenges and has shown a lot of growth through the year thus far. While there is still a lot of work to do to get to where we want to be in May, we are looking forward to continuing to build momentum every step of the way."
RU finished ahead of No. 11 Ohio State in the Second Varsity 4, while both Third Varsity 4 boats crossed in front of No. 8 Penn in Session I.
Session II was highlighted by the Second Varsity 4 win and results over Harvard in the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8.
