Rowing Takes on Doc Hosea Invitational Saturday
Mar 28 | Women's Rowing
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – No. 13 Rutgers rowing is set for the 2024 Doc Hosea Invitational on Sat., March 30 beginning at 8 a.m. on the Cooper River.
The 12-team field includes Clemson, Columbia, Delaware, Georgetown, George Washington, Navy, Northeastern, No. 10 Penn, Rhode Island, No. 13 Rutgers, Temple, and Villanova. In addition to those two ranked squads, Columbia is receiving votes in the latest CRCA Coaches Poll.
The Doc Hosea Invitational honors longtime Rutgers team orthopedist Dr. Timothy Hosea, who passed away suddenly in Aug. 2015. Dr. Hosea, who worked with the Rutgers Athletics for over 30 years, was a prominent figure in the rowing community, serving as team physician for the USRowing national team.
The championship-style regatta will send the top two boats from each heat and the next two fastest heat times to the grand final, with the remaining boats going to the petite final.
Rutgers is the defending Doc Hosea Invitational winner from 2019, which was the last time the event was held before covid and a pair of weather-related cancelations in 2022 and 2023. The event awards four points for each place in Varsity 8, three points per place in 2nd Varsity 8, and two points per place in Varsity 4. All other boats will earn one point per place. The V8 will be worth 48 points, the 2V8 36 points, and so forth.
The Scarlet Knights, who have the reigning Big Ten Boat of the Week in the 2nd Varsity 4 from the season-opening Big Ten/Ivy League Dust Up, return 14 of the 23 athletes that competed in the three NCAA Championships boats in 2023, when RU placed 15th in the country with all three boats racing to second-place finishes in the C finals (14th overall). Among the returners is a member of the inaugural CRCA Athletes to Watch list, junior coxswain Victoria Grieder.
