PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The two Rutgers men's lacrosse captains were recognized with honors from the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Shane Knobloch earned the Lt. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Outstanding Midfielder of the Year Award as well as First Team All-American honors.
Ross Scott was named an Honorable Mention All-American.
Knobloch became the first winner of the McLaughlin Award in program history, with the accolade first established in 1973. It is one of five major awards given out by the USILA. He is the first Rutgers player to earn one of these accolades since Reid Jackson claimed the William C. For Knobloch, it represented a clean sweep of First Team All-American honors (Coaches, Inside Lacrosse Media Voting, USA Lacrosse Magazine) and secured his place as a four-time All-American. He becomes just the second four-time All-American in program history, joining Tom Sweeney (1977-1980). For Scott, he is now a three-time All-American, having also earned All-American recognition from the USILA in 2022 and 2023.
With these two All-Americans, Rutgers now counts 239 all-time All-American honors. These have been earned by 151 different players. Rutgers has claimed multiple All-Americans via the USILA for eight consecutive listings (including 19 over the past four years alone) and nine consecutive seasons with at least one All-American.
Knobloch was one of just two midfielders to be named a First Team All-American by all three All-American awards. The Moorestown, N.J. native was also named First Team All-Big Ten and to the Tewaaraton Award Top 25 Watch List as he scored 29 goals, leading the team, and placed second on the squad with 11 assists for 40 points. He scored multiple goals in 11 games with five hat tricks and had a team-high four man-up goals.
