May 30 | Women's Rowing
Scarlet Knights make their fifth consecutive appearance at the national regatta after finishing 15th in 2023
BETHEL, Ohio – No. 13 Rutgers rowing heads to the Midwest for the 2024 NCAA Championships beginning on Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2 at East Fork/Harsha Lake.
The Scarlet Knights are competing in their fifth consecutive NCAA Championships after breaking an 18-year drought in 2019 with an 11th-place finish, followed by a seventh-place team result in 2021, a 13th-place finish in 2022, and a 15th-place showing last year in New Jersey.
Last spring, Rutgers' three boats raced to second-place finishes in the C finals (14th overall) at the NCAA Championships. The Scarlet Knights entered the national championships with just nine returners from the 2022 NCAA boats, with the strong depth of NCAA newcomers keeping the trend of Rutgers outracing its seeding heading into the NCAA Championships. All three 14th-place boats finished ahead of their seed (V8 - 17th, 2V8 - 15th, V4 - 16th).
Competition on Friday begins for the Scarlet Knights at 10:12 a.m. in the third heat of the Varsity 8. The 2nd Varsity 8 will be in the third heat at 11 a.m. At 12 p.m., Rutgers will compete in the fourth heat of the Varsity 4. All times are approximate and subject to change.
The top three boats from each heat move on to Saturday's A/B semifinals. The rest move on to the C/D semifinals on Saturday.
This year's field features Boston U., Brown, California, Duke, Gonzaga, Indiana, Jacksonville, Michigan, Northeastern, Ohio State, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Rhode Island, Rutgers, SMU, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Yale.

HOW THEY GOT HERE
The Scarlet Knights earned one of 11 at-large bids to the NCAA Championships, making an appearance at the national regatta for the fifth consecutive season.
Rutgers finished third at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, tying for its highest finish at the conference regatta under seventh-year head coach Justin Price. RU won three medals, including a Big Ten gold for a third-consecutive year after the 3rd Varsity 4 won its race for the second-straight year. The Varsity 4 raced to silver, while the 2nd Varsity 8 claimed bronze. Two Varsity 8 members, which saw their boat finish less than a second away from a Big Ten Championships medal, were named All-Big Ten with Lily Wood taking First Team honors and Annie Wertheimer earning a Second Team distinction.
The 2024 Rutgers team returns 14 of the 23 athletes from the NCAA boats. The RU eights will be coxed by Victoria Grieder, an inaugural member of the CRCA Athletes to Watch in 2024, and Emily Mahaffy, a 2021 Second-Team All-American as a freshman and recipient of the Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship.
