ROSEMONT, Ill. – No. 13 Rutgers rowing's Third Varsity 4 has been named the Big Ten Boat of the Week for its performance at the Women's Eastern Sprints on Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
It marks the second Boat of the Week honor of the season for the Scarlet Knights, and the 10th for the program since its first appearance in the conference's weekly awards in 2018.
Rutgers' 3V4 finished with more than 14 seconds of open water ahead of the competition to win gold in the grand final of the Eastern Sprints on Sunday. RU crossed 17 seconds ahead of the fastest of two boats from No. 7 Brown and 40 seconds ahead of No. 20 Columbia. The boat was also 40 seconds faster than Michigan State in that race.
The winning boat was coxed by
Ugochinyere Egbuchulam, with
Abigail Franks,
Madison Cancro,
Aisling Byrne, and
Seher Talukdar sitting stroke to bow.
The 3V4 boat and the rest of the Scarlet Knights return to action on Sun., May 19 at the Big Ten Championships in Baraboo, Wisc.
