Basketball Teams Up With Prudential To Host Youth Clinic in Newark

Scarlet Knights men's and women's basketball players instructed the free youth clinic

Newark, N.J. – The Rutgers men's and women's basketball program in conjunction with Prudential Financial, Inc. hosted a free youth basketball clinic at the Golden Dome Athletic Center on the campus of Rutgers-Newark.

Prudential is the presenting sponsor for Rutgers men's and women's basketball, providing financial education and funded investment accounts through a NIL (name, image, and likeness) initiative. The company has a long-standing commitment to help more people access financial solutions – including student-athletes – and helping them build and protect wealth.

Among the participants in the clinic were boys and girls of Prudential's community partners that included La Casa de Don Pedro and Urban League of Essex County. Throughout the clinic, the participants were directed through a series of drills and games to teach basketball fundamentals.

"The youth basketball clinic was such a good experience," said women's basketball player Antonia Bates. "It is so cool to see how the kids look up to us and how we are able to make such a big impact in only two hours! We got to teach them some skills and lead them through drills while also having so much fun."

"We really enjoyed getting to spend time with the youth of Newark at the basketball clinic," men's basketball player Jordan Derkack said. "Anytime we can have an impact on children in my home state, it's an amazing experience. We all learned a lot from the event and are thankful to spend time with kids through our mutual love of basketball."
