No. 9 Field Hockey Splits Weekend At Monmouth Friday, Hosts UConn Sunday

Updated Link: Live Stats vs. UConn

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –
No. 9 Rutgers field hockey is set to play twice this weekend, splitting games on the road and then at home against familiar foes. RU travels down the shore to play Monmouth on Friday before returning to Piscataway on Sunday for a clash with UConn.

The road contest at Monmouth Friday is the road game for RU in its first five contests, as the Scarlet Knights open the season with six of eight games in September on their home turf.

Rutgers' Last Time Out

Rutgers dominated Vermont 5-0 in its season opener last Sunday. Guillermina Causarano had two goals on the day, while Kara Heck added a goal and an assist. Ava Cickavage and Indy van Ek added the other two goals. Sophia Howard earned the shutout victory for the Scarlet Knights and 2023 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Puck Winter had a defensive save. Paulina Niklaus had two assists, pacing the nation in the early going with 2.0 helpers per game. RU controlled play throughout with a 28-9 shot advantage over the Catamounts.

About Monmouth

The Hawks have started their season 2-0 when they welcome the Scarlet Knights. Their last win came against VCU by a score of 4-3 after a penalty shootout in overtime. Rutgers leads the all-time series 8-4 including five straight wins, the most recent victory coming last year when Rutgers came out on top 4-2 last season. The Scarlet Knights will make their first trip to play in West Long Branch since 2014 (a 3-2 loss) and are 2-1 all-time at So Sweet a Cat Field dating back to 2002. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at So Sweet A Cat Field and will be streamed on Flo Sports.

About UConn

The Huskies have also started their season 2-0 as they prepare to come into Piscataway. The Huskies won their last game 6-2 against New Hampshire, and host Cornell on Friday prior to the matchup 'On the Banks'.

UConn holds the series edge with a record of 30-5-1 against the Scarlet Knights, but Rutgers has had the most recent success. Rutgers has won the past three games. The Scarlet Knights earned victories by a one-goal margin, all in extra time over a ranked UConn squad, each of the past three seasons (2-1 in double overtime in 2021, 1-0 in overtime in 2022, and 2-1 in a shootout in 2023). That game is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Bauer Track and Field Complex and will be streamed on B1G+.
