Lexi Visintine Captures First Career Double-Double In Five Set Match With Little Rock

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Rutgers volleyball and Little Rock went to five on Friday night at Barnhill Arena in the Wooo Pig Invitational hosted by Arkansas.

The Scarlet Knights opened with a 25-21 victory while the Trojans tied the match following a 25-22 win in set two. Rutgers went back in front taking set three, 25-19, but Little Rock tied up the contest a second time behind a 25-18 set four win and took the deciding set five, 17-15.

STANDOUT STATS
  • Four Scarlet Knights landed in double-digit kills led by redshirt junior Alissa Kinkela with 15. Kinkela also added six digs and four blocks.
  • Junior Lexi Visintine captured her first career double-double behind a career-high 11 kills and career-high 17 digs.
  • Freshman Avery Jesewitz also added 11 kills making only one attack error in the match across her 28 attempts.
  • Sophomore Zora Hardison tied her career-high with 10 kills to go along with five blocks.
  • Freshman Lily Bolen registered 33 assists and four aces. Five games into her Scarlet Knight career, Bolen's four aces tied for the ninth most in a five-set match inrally eray-era. Bolen was also one dig shy of a double-double with nine.
  • Rutgers out blocked Little Rock, 12-3, with Natalie Robinson leading the way with seven rejections. The freshman also added seven kills hitting .400 for the night. Sophomore Anna Hartman had a career-high six blocks while contributing eight kills and six digs.
  • Joining Kinkela in double-figure digs on the defense was sophomore Kenzie Dyrstad with 12.
KEY MOMENTS
  • SET 1 (25-21) | Lily Bolen notched three of her four aces on the first three serves of the game and Rutgers would never trail. In the lone tie of the opener at 6-6, the Scarlet Knights outscored the Trojans 15-6. While Little Rock used a late surge to whittle down a 21-12 deficit down to three, Avery Jesewitz delivered set point on one of her four first-frame kills.
 
  • SET 2 (22-25) | The two squads played to six ties and four lead changes before the Trojans made it a set apiece. After Little Rock had an early 4-0 run for an 8-6 advantage, Rutgers scored six of the next eight points to establish a 12-10 edge. An Alissa Kinkela swing put RU up 14-12 when the Trojans outscored the Scarlet Knights 5-1 to take over the lead and stay in front. Rutgers was within a pair late as an Anna Hartman attack had Rutgers down 23-21 and Kinkela and Natalie Robinson teamed up for a stop to trail 24-22.
 
  • SET 3 (25-19) | It was back to the win column for RU. The Scarlet Knights hit .429 for the frame making only one attack error on their 35 swings. Hardison was on target on four of her five attacks to hit .800 for the set, adding a trio of blocks, while Lexi Visintine also contributed four kills to go along with six digs. Hardison and Jesewitz's rejection put RU in front for good at 9-8 as Rutgers went on to outscore the opposition 13-7 for its largest lead of the set. Kinkela's lone kill of the stanza extended RU's advantage to 22-15.
 
  • SET 4 (18-25) | Little Rock came back to tie the match up again, this time leading start to finish. Rutgers made a late push rattling off five unanswered to pull within a pair trailing 19-17.
 
  • SET 5 (15-17) | The deciding set was tied seven times. Rutgers was ahead 12-10, but Little Rock notched four of the next five for a 14-13 edge. Two errors by the Trojans tied the set at 14-14 and 15-15, but Little Rock captured the next two points for the match.
