Dec 12 | Field Hockey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers duo of Puck Winter and Paulina Niklaus each were named First Team All-ECAC on Friday. The placements gave RU two of the 11 spots on the First Team and made RU one of just two schools with two First Team All-ECAC honorees.
This is the third straight year that Winter has been named First Team All-ECAC, and the first all-ECAC selection overall for Niklaus. Both were previously honored this season as First Team All-Region and First Team All-Big Ten, as well as being named to the NFHCA Senior Team.
Winter capped a RU career where she had previously been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year (2022) and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (2023) and is a three-time All-Big Ten and two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection overall. She had 31 career defensive saves, setting the Rutgers all-time record and tying the Big Ten record.
Niklaus is a two-time team captain for the Scarlet Knights in her third season 'On the Banks'. Playing both back and midfield this season, she was a starter in all 18 games with five goals and six assists. The Mannheim, Germany native leads the team in assists, is third in points (16) and fourth in goals. In 52 career games and starts, she has 15 goals and 13 assists for 43 points.
Postseason awards recognition continues next week, as the NFHCA is slated to announce its All-Americans on Tuesday.
