Men's Basketball Defeated 101-60 at Michigan

Box Score

ANN ARBOR, Mich - Rutgers men's basketball ran into a red-hot Michigan team on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 101–60 at Crisler Center as the Wolverines shot a blistering 60 percent from the field and controlled the game from start to finish.

Michigan (8–0, 1–0 Big Ten) put together its most efficient offensive performance of the season, piling up 52 points in the paint, knocking down 13 three-pointers, and finishing with 26 assists on 39 made field goals. The Wolverines' length, pace and physicality disrupted Rutgers early, fueling a 50–25 halftime lead that grew as large as 42 in the second half.

Rutgers briefly led 2–0 on a second-chance layup by Harun Zrno, but Michigan immediately answered with a 14–4 run built on turnovers and transition scoring. Freshman standout Morez Johnson Jr. set the tone with 15 first-half points, finishing the day with a game-high 22 points, seven rebounds and two blocks on 9-of-11 shooting. Backcourt play pushed the margin wider. Point guard Elliot Cadeau orchestrated the offense with 11 points, nine assists and two steals, while Yaxel Lendeborg delivered 14 points, eight rebounds and a pair of threes. Michigan's balanced scoring included five players in double figures and 45 bench points.

Rutgers (5–5, 0–2 Big Ten) never found sustained rhythm offensively, shooting 36 percent from the field and 6-of-23 from three. The Scarlet Knights finished with 18 turnovers, which led directly to 22 Michigan points. Freshman guard Harun Zrno was a bright spot, scoring 13 points with four rebounds, while Dylan Grant added 11 points, seven boards and a team-high three assists. Fellow freshman Kaden Powers added 13 points, including three made threes, and Tariq Francis provided a spark off the bench with nine points in the second half.

Rutgers' bench scored 35 points, but the Scarlet Knights could not slow Michigan's depth and ball movement as the Wolverines closed out the victory.
