Blanchette, Harer Place at Patriot Open

FAIRFAX, Va. – Conner Harer (157) and Nate Blanchette (174) placed in their respective weight classes to highlight action for No. 13 Rutgers wrestling at the Patriot Open on Sunday in Fairfax, Virginia. Harer delivered a runner-up finish competing unattached, while Blanchette delivered three wins en route to a fifth-place result wrestling attached.
Harer opened the tournament with three consecutive wins, including a win in second tiebreakers over three-time NCAA qualifier Kal Miller (Maryland) to advance to the 157-pound final. Harer lost his title match to No. 17 DJ McGee by 8-6 decision to finish second.
After a loss in the second round, Blanchette ripped off three wins on the backside of the bracket, including an 8-4 decision over Elliott Humphries (PRTC) to finish fifth. Blanchette posted two pins at the open to increase his total to three on the season.
Competing attached, Mason Gibson (141) delivered three wins, including a major decision and tech fall. Brandan Chletsos (141) also added three wins competing unattached.
Rutgers hosts No. 19 Oklahoma on Saturday, Dec. 13 (8 p.m.) and Drexel on Sunday, Dec. 14 (1 p.m.) at Jersey Mike's Arena. The Scarlet Knights' dual with the Sooners is set for a national broadcast on Big Ten Network.
