Three Men’s Lacrosse Alumns Set for PLL Champ Series

Ethan Rall, Colin Kirst, Ronan Jacoby to Compete in Event From Feb. 11-17

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Three alumns from Rutgers' men's lacrosse are set to play in the PLL's Championship Series event. Ethan Rall and Colin Kirst will play for the Boston Cannons and Ronan Jacoby will play for the New York Atlas.

The event will take place from February 11-17 indoors at The St. James in Springfield, Va. All games will stream on ESPN+, with ESPN2 set to televise playoff games on Sunday (6 pm) and Monday (1:30 pm). The event will be in the 6-on-6 "Sixes" format that will be used in the 2028 Olympics, which includes a shorter :30 second shot clock and restarts after goals instead of faceoffs.

Rall was a three-time All-American (twice being named to the First Team) and three-time all-Big Ten selection at Rutgers. Rall had 12 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls for the Cannons this past summer, and was a Rookie of the Year finalist in his first season after going undrafted.

Kirst was a two-time All-American and two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection at RU. The goalkeeper posted a 54% save percentage on 11.4 goals-against average last summer to be named a PLL All-Star and a finalist for the Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Jacoby had 37 goals and 11 assists in 19 games for the 2022 RU Final Four squad in his lone year 'On the Banks'. He competed in the champ series last winter for the Archers as his pro lacrosse debut, impressing enough (15 goals, 52% shooting) to earn a spot in the summer with the Atlas.

The Utah Archers and Maryland Whipsnakes will also make up the quartet of teams in the event. The teams will play a series of games from Feb. 11-15 to determine playoff seeding. The top three teams move on, with semifinals set for Sunday and the Championship set for Monday.

In the 2024 PLL Champ Series, RU was represented on the championship winning Boston Cannons by Ethan Rall and Colin Kirst. Christian Scarpello, Ronan Jacoby and Jules Heningburg all competed in the event as well.

Rutgers men's lacrosse has established a strong pipeline to the professional ranks. Rutgers boasts a total of 45 alumni all-time between Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL). This success placing players in the pros has been accelerated recently, with 33 alumni coached at RU by current head coach Brian Brecht to go on to the professional level.
