No. 11 Wrestling Sends Seven to 2025 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 11 Rutgers wrestling sends seven student-athletes down the Turnpike to the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships, held March 20-22 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Dean Peterson (125), Dylan Shawver (133), Joseph Olivieri (141), Andrew Clark (149), Jackson Turley (174), Shane Cartagena-Walsh (184) and Yaraslau Slavikouski (HWT) will all compete during the three-day tournament, as the Scarlet Knights look to secure multiple All-Americans for the second consecutive season and for the ninth time in 10 seasons under head coach Scott Goodale.

WHAT TO KNOW
  • Rutgers brings seven starters to this year's national tournament, its fourth consecutive season with seven or more national qualifiers. RU has had five or more national qualifiers in each season since 2015.
  • Dylan Shawver (133) and Yaraslau Slavikouski (HWT) enter this weekend as returning 2024 All-Americans, while Jackson Turley (174) earned All-America laurels in 2021.
  • After producing eight All-Americans in the 74 years prior to his arrival, Rutgers has had 19 All-American in 18 seasons under head coach Scott Goodale.
  • During Goodale's tenure, there have been 109 NCAA qualifiers, 19 All-Americans, six conference champions (five Big Ten, one EIWA) and two individual national champions.
  • Dylan Shawver (133) looks to return to the podium after he finished seventh at last year's NCAA Championships in Kansas City, Missouri. The 2024 All-American returns to nationals for the third time in his career and is the program's highest-seeded individual in the field at No. 10. Shawver finished sixth at this year's Big Ten Championships after winning an individual conference title last season. Shawver has produced a 19 victories this season and is 7-9 against this year's NCAA field.
  • Yaraslau Slavikouski (HWT) also looks to return to the podium after he finished seventh at nationals a year ago, becoming just the second heavyweight in school history (Edward Scharer, 1964) to earn All-America laurels. An at-large selection to this year's championships due to an injury sustained at Big Tens, Slavikouski is set to compete in his third NCAA Championships after appearing for Harvard in 2023.
  • Jackson Turley (174) earned an at-large bid to this year's national tournament, becoming just the seventh four-time NCAA qualifier in program history along with Anthony Ashnault, Nick Gravina, Dan Rinaldi, Andy Roy, Billy Smith and Scott Winston. A 2021 All-American, Turley has also competed at the 2023 and 2024 NCAA Championships, producing six career wins at the national tournament. Turley wrestled to ninth at this year's Big Ten Championships and owns four wins against the field.
  • Dean Peterson (125) is set to compete in his third consecutive NCAA Championships after he finished sixth at this year's Big Ten Championships and posted 20 victories on the season. Peterson advance to the 'Blood Round' at the 2023 championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before finishing 1-2 at last year's championships in Kansas City, Missouri. Seeded 12th – the highest seed of his career – and ranked No. 11 in the final coaches ranking, Peterson owns five wins against the field.
  • Joseph Olivieri (141) makes it back to the national tournament for the second time in his career and the first since he qualified at 133 pounds in 2022. Ranked No. 15 in the final coaches poll, Olivieri delivered a sixth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and enters the weekend with 18 wins. Olivieri owns three wins against the field.
  • Andrew Clark (149) also returns to nationals for the second time after he qualified in 2023 competing at 157 pounds. The team leader in wins with 22, Clark finished sixth at this year's Big Ten Championships and owns a six wins against the field. A native of Collingswood, Clark grew up just seven miles away from the Wells Fargo Center.
  • Shane Cartagena-Walsh (184) will make his NCAA Championships debut after he locked up an automatic bid with an eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. Cartagena-Walsh has tallied 21 victories during his first varsity season, which includes a 10-5 record in dual action with five tech falls and 35 team points. Cartagena-Walsh is 6-8 against the NCAA field this season.
