Men's Golf Prepares to Tee Off in Charleston at “The Hootie”

CHARLESTON, South Carolina- Just three days off of their annual hosted tournament, "The Johnnie-O," in St. Simons Island, Georgia, the Scarlet Knights head up the coast to Charleston, South Carolina to compete in "The Hootie."

This tournament is the namesake of the famed 1980s and 1990s band, Hootie and The Blowfish, led by frontman and golf enthusiast Darius Rucker. Played at the picturesque Bulls Bay Golf Club, the Scarlet Knights are set for another exciting regular season challenge.

"We feel great after the Johnnie-O", head coach Rob Shutte said. "I think this group is due for something. Golf is hard to get right all the time but we had some great performances recently, especially Noah [Kumar] winning Big Ten Golfer of the Week."

The Scarlet Knights look to springboard off that momentum from the Johnnie-O and bring it into The Hootie, a tournament they've never played before.

"It's a really unique course design with some really quirky holes, and it's our first time out there, but we dissected it as best as we could," said Shutte.

Despite some early season hiccups, Shutte and his squad anticipate a great week ahead.

"I think there's going to be fewer traps this week, and the way the bunkers are set up suits us, and we have a ton of guys that can hit the ball a long way which plays well on this course," Shutte said. "I think the course will suit us well, we just have to make some putts."

The Scarlet Knights tee off beginning Sunday, March 23rd, with the final day of action coming Tuesday, March 25th.
