Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls at Minnesota

St. Paul, Minn. – Rutgers women's soccer (2-1-4, 0-1-1 B1G) dropped its first contest of the season to Minnesota (5-2-1, 1-0-1 B1G), 2-1, on the road Thursday night. Marcia Ojo scored her first goal of the fall in the beginning of the second half but the Gophers fought back to come out with the win.

After a weather delay of a little over an hour, both teams started off the first half keeping most of the action between the 18s. However, the Scarlet Knights went onto control the pace and possession, generating multiple opportunities.

With just under six minutes remaining in the first 45 minutes, Reilly McGlinn had a breakaway chance, but it was denied by the Gopher goalkeeper.

RU ended the opening half with the advantage in shots (5-2) and shots on goal (2-1).

The first three minutes of the second half went back and forth, but the Gophers capitalized and found the back of the net to take the lead in the 48th minute.

However, Marcia Ojo wasted no time at all, netting the equalizer just moments later in the 50th minute. The score came after a well-placed corner was knocked around in the box and Gabriela Gil found Ojo.

The teams continued to trade trips up and down the pitch, but Minnesota found the back of the net once again in the 74th minute, to take the 2-1 edge and the ultimate 2-1 victory.

Rutgers will return to Yurack Field to host Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
