EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Rutgers cross country team will return to action this Friday, Sept. 12 for the Big Ten Preview at Gans Creek Cross Country Course on the Michigan State campus.
This past weekend at the Jersey Jam race in Princeton, Micah Lawson placed fourth overall to lead the Scarlet Knights with a time of 17:02.6. Right behind him, Liam Tilton scored and placed in the top-15 overall, finishing in 11th in 17:17.1.
On the women's side, Kelseigh O'Neil finished third overall with a time of 14:08.4, followed by Lorena David, who placed 10th in 14:16.0.
Entering the season, one of goals for associate head coach Nicol Starkes was to improve the team's finish at the Big Ten Championships this year. This weekend's Big Ten Preview will be an important benchmark for the Scarlet Knights, as it takes place on the same course that will host the 2025 conference championship.
"Seeing the Big Ten course before we actually have Big Ten [Championships] there is going to be huge for us," said Starkes.
After a promising outing at the Jersey Jam, Rutgers enters the Big Ten Preview confident and ready to take the next step in its season. The Scarlet Knights will face Big Ten competition, that features four men's squads and six women's teams in USTFCCCA preseason rankings, including host Michigan State.
