
Coleman, Rohwer & Shifflett Named B1G Players To Watch

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball junior outfielder Makenna Coleman, junior infielder Sam Rohwer and junior right-handed pitcher Brooke Shifflett were named Big Ten Softball Players To Watch by the conference office on Thursday.

SOPHOMORE (2025 - at Bryant)
- Played in 51 games, making 50 starts in the outfield, primarily in left field.
- Recorded a career-high 45 hits, 16 doubles, and 29 RBI.
- Tied her career-high of six home runs.
- Tallied 15 multi-hit games.
- Registered nine multi-RBI games
- Set the America East Tournament record for doubles in a game with three vs. UML (May. 7)
- Set the America East Tournament for most doubles during the tournament with five
- Had a stretch of four straight games with multiple RBIs (Mar. 22 - 26).
- Second season of 25+ RBIs

- Tied her career high with seven home runs
- First career two-home run game at UMBC (Apr. 18), which began a stretch of four home runs in three games (Apr. 18 - 22)

- Season-high six strikeouts against Kansas City (Apr. 29), DePaul (Apr. 27) and Saint Mary's (Mar. 1)
- Complete-game shutout over Saint Mary's, allowing one hit with six strikeouts (Mar. 1)
- Allowed one hit in a complete-game victory with five strikeouts and one run scored at Providence (Mar. 7)
- Collected five strikeouts over Northern Kentucky (Feb. 15)
FRESHMAN (2024 - at Creighton)
- Made four appearances in the circle during her first season with the Bluejays in 2024
- Recorded five strikeouts, including three in a season-high 3.0 innings of work in a crucial 10-6 win over UConn in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals
- Tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of one-hit ball at UConn on (Apr. 12)
- Made her collegiate debut as a reliever at Texas State (Feb. 11)
PRIOR TO COLLEGE
- First Team All-Conference, All-District, All-Regional and All-State as a junior and senior
- Guided the Roosters and Chicks to a Class 3 District 7 Runner-up finish with a 1.04 ERA and 144 strikeouts in the circle, while hitting .386 with 34 hits, including four doubles, five triples and eight home runs as a senior
- Led Pleasant Hill to their third straight MRVC Conference Championship and the District 7 Regional Final after posting a 0.98 ERA with 238 strikeouts as a junior
- Hit .350 and posted a .833 slugging percentage with two doubles, three triples and seven home runs, earning First Team All-District 7 honors as a sophomore
- Earl Award finalist for best high school pitcher in the Kansas City Metro area as a junior
- Earned Academic All-State honors following junior season, while receiving Academic All-Conference Recognition all four years of high school
The Rutgers softball team opens the 2026 campaign next weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida. The Scarlet Knights will take on North Carolina Central and #4 Tennessee on Friday, February 6, meet South Alabama and Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, February 7, and close out opening weekend with Notre Dame on Sunday, February 8. All games will be available on GameChanger and Statbroadcast.
