Women's Basketball Falls to No. 8/8 Maryland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's basketball team (8-8, 0-5 B1G) fell to No. 8/8 Maryland (16-1, 4-1 B1G), 88-41, on Thursday night.
How it Happened
- Maryland started off the contest with three deep shots in a row to go up 9-0 and force a Rutgers timeout with 8:03 to play.
- Imani Lester and Lauryn Swann broke up the scoring with a layup and free throw, respectively, to combat four more points from the Terrapins.
- UMD went on to outscore RU 8-2 with just over four minutes remaining in the period. Swann hit a big three to slow the opponent down and make the score 21-8.
- With 1:16 remaining, Zachara Perkins made one shot at the line, but UMD matched it just before the buzzer to bring the 22-11 lead into the next 10 minutes.
- Maryland kicked off the second quarter with consecutive buckets to extend its lead, 26-11. RU called its second timeout at the 9:23 mark.
- The Terrapins kept the run going with another three and a pair of layups, but the Scarlet Knights got on the board with two free throws from Nene Ndiaye at 5:35. Janae Walker kept it going, hitting a second chance layup to make it 33-15.
- UMD netted 11 more points through the end of the quarter to go into the locker room ahead, 44-16.
- Maryland once again got going with a shot from beyond the arc, but Lester responded on the next possession with a layup.
- The opposition netted another layup on a fastbreak to go up 49-18 as RU called its third timeout with 7:27 to go.
- Nene Ndiaye scored the lone point in a 10-1 run for the Terrapins before the 4:42 media timeout. The opposition remained on top, 59-19.
- UMD netted two more threes before a pair of buckets from Nene Ndiaye and Blackstone to end the period, 65-23.
- The Terps scored the first points of the final 10 minutes, before Swann and Blackstone combined for five points.
- Maryland recorded another three-pointer, but Rutgers came back with four points in a row with 6:41 left. The opposition hit on another deep shot to keep the 73-33 edge.
- The Scarlet Knights cashed in on four more free throws before the 4:47 media timeout, 73-36.
- Nene Ndiaye came out of the pause with a three, but the opposition responded with five points of their own. Maryland ended the night on a 15-2 run to come out with the 88-41 win.
Knights Notes
- Nene Ndiaye netted 11 points to lead the team. The performance also marked her 14th double-digit outing of the season.
- Imani Lester and Antonia Bates both led the way off the boards with five rebounds each.
- Lauryn Swann netted seven points, including two threes, in her first game back since Dec. 6 and second outing of the season.
- Ivey recorded three helpers against the Terrapins. She has dished three or more dimes 11 times this season, including nine of the last 10 outings.
