Lu Cards Top 10 Finish at Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. – Graduate senior Grace Lu produced a top 10 finish to highlight action for Rutgers women's golf at the Westbrook Invitational on Monday in Peoria, Arizona. Lu fired off a nine-under-par 207 (67-70-70) across her three rounds to tie for sixth in the 82-player field.
After finishing their first two rounds tied for third on Sunday, the Scarlet Knights closed out the invitational tied with UNLV for seventh with a 14-under-par 850 (282-280-288). No. 35 Missouri won the team title with a 37-under-par 827 (277-279-271), followed by No. 23 Arizona (-35) and No. 26 Kansas State (-27). Kansas State's Noa van Beek won the individual title with a 14-under-par 202 (64-71-67).
"I was glad to see that my putting practice paid off this week," Lu said. "I saw a lot of improvements and areas that I need to work on, but overall I am happy with how I played against a competitive field."
Sophomore Joline Truong tied for 21st with a four-under-par 212 (72-67-73), while junior Krystal Li also came in under par with a one-under-par 215 (71-72-72), tying for 40th. Li, Lu, Truong and sophomore Judy Amano combined for 10 rounds of even or under-par golf across three rounds of play.
"While it wasn't the final round we were looking for, this finish was still great for our program and a performance we can build on for the rest of our spring schedule," said head coach Kari Williams. "Grace played well and put together three nice rounds for a top-10 finish against a competitive field. Everyone had good stretches of play out here and we just have a few things to sharpen up before our next event."
Round 3 – Monday, Feb. 23
Weather: Sunny, Temps in the mid-70s, 5-10 mph winds
After carding a career-low 67 on Sunday, Lu continued her consistent play with a two-under par 70 during Monday's final round. Her finish included three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole, helping Lu secure her third top 10 finish of the season.
Truong, who also tallied a career-low 67 on Sunday, produced a one-over-par 73 to finish within the top 25. Truong's day included a team-best six birdies in the final round, as she finished with 16 across her three rounds.
Li shot an even 72 to close out her tournament, rolling in three birdies to secure a tied-for 40th result. Amano contributed two eagles in the third round to close with a invitational-best three eagles.
Rookie Elizabeth Ryu rounded out the team scorecard tied for 67th, while junior Emily James tied for 77th competing as an individual.
Rounds 1 & 2 – Sunday, Feb. 22

Rutgers opened the tournament with a blistering six-under-par 282, with four starters coming in at or under par through the first 18 holes of the day. The morning session was highlight by Lu, who rolled in five birdies and 11 pars en route to a five-under-par 67 – the lowest round of her collegiate career.
"Today's rounds were good," Lu said. "The greens here roll really nicely and I just told myself to remain patient as there are a lot of opportunities to score at Westbrook. Tomorrow, our goal as a team is to be present and in the moment throughout the final round."
Li also came in under par in the opening round, firing off a one-under-par 71 with birdies on holes seven, nine, 14 and 18.
Amano and Truong contributed even scorecards in round one. Amano collected birdies on holes five, 14 and 17 while smashing an eagle on the par-5 No. 8 hole. Truong produced four birdies and 10 pars to secure her even 72.
"Overall, I was pretty happy with my game today," Truong said. "I had a bumpy start but stayed patient and trusted that there are many birdie chances on this course. I'm proud of how everyone played today and we're excited to come back and finish strong tomorrow"
Freshman Elizabeth Ryu capped the opening round with a two-over-par 74.
Truong made moves in the second round, collecting six birdies en route to a five-under-par 67. Lu maintained her spot towards the top of the leaderboard thanks to a two-under-par 70, adding five birdies and 10 pars to move to seven-under-par across her two rounds on Sunday.
Amano joined Lu and Truong with under-par second-round scorecards, closing the day with a one-under-par 71. Amano rolled in five birdies to bring her total to eight for the day. Li remained consistent with an even 72, while Ryu rounded out the team scoring with a five-over-par 77.
Junior Emily James is tied for 72nd competing as an individual.
"I am proud of the team's play today," said head coach Kari Williams. "We rolled in a lot of birdies and played aggressively when we could. It was great to see everyone compete hard and move us up the leaderboard in the afternoon. We'll look to keep the momentum going in the final round."
