PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Four Rutgers men's lacrosse alumns will compete in this year's Premier Lacrosse League Champ Series. Ross Scott, Shane Knobloch and Christian Scarpello were named to the Carolina Chaos roster. Michael Rexrode is on the New York Atlas roster.
The event takes place starting on Friday, February 27 at the St. James in Springfield, Virgina. Four teams will compete: Denver Outlaws, New York Atlas, California Redwoods and Carolina Chaos. There will be a round robin format from February 27 to March 6, with Semifinals on March 7 and a championship game on March 8. The games will be played in the Sixes format in preparation for the style to be played at the Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles.
Rexrode won the 2025 PLL title with the Atlas as a starting defenseman. He recently wrapped up his fifth season with the Atlas and eighth pro season overall for the 2018 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner. Rexrode was the 2018 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, a two-time All-American and two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection at RU.
Scott excelled in his second pro season with the Chaos. The midfielder played in 11 games with 12 goals and a career-high eight assists for a career-high 20 points. Scott was a three-time All-American and three-time All-American selection at RU who scored 50 goals in 2022 as RU went to the final four, tied for the most in a single-season in RU history.
Knobloch, a former First Round Draft Pick in the PLL, wrapped up his second outdoor season with Carolina with 11 points in four games. The Moorestown, N.J. native was the 2024 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner, Lt. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Outstanding Midfielder of the Year winner, First Team All-American, First Team All-Big Ten and First Team All-ECAC as a senior.
Scarpello has carved out a five-season career in the PLL, previously competing with the Waterdogs. He will change teams for the first time when he suits up for the Chaos. A short-stick defensive midfielder at RU, Scarpello played in 60 games as a Scarlet Knight with 13 goals, 24 assists, 121 ground balls and 42 caused turnovers.
In 2025, RU had three alumns participating: Colin Kirst, Ethan Rall and Ronan Jacoby. Kirst and Rall led the Cannons to the championship, with Kirst setting a new tournament record with 72 saves.
Rutgers men's lacrosse has established a strong pipeline to the professional ranks. Rutgers boasts a total of 47 alumni all-time between Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL)
This success placing players in the pros has been accelerated recently, with 35 alumni coached at RU by current head coach Brian Brecht to go on to the professional level.
