2015 (Redshirt Senior): Played in 11 games with 10 starts at running back ... received the Loyal Knight Award which is given to the players who distinguished themselves by sacrificing personal goals for the team and whose character and dedication have proved resilient in the pursuit of excellence ... 2nd on the team in rushing touchdowns with five ... 3rd on the team in rushing yards with 544 ... ran for 75 yards and a touchdown against Maryland (11/28) ... ran for three touchdowns (7, 1, 1) and 116 yards on 18 carries (6.4/rush) in win at Army (11/21) ... a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy (11/10), given to the top player in the nation who started career as a walk-on ... rushed for 56 yards on 10 attempts against No. 1 Ohio State (10/24), recording a 25-yard run ... tied the game at Indiana (10/17) with a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter ... broke free for a 72-yard rush versus No. 4 Michigan State (10/10) that helped setup first RU score of the game ... averaged 6.3 yards per carry with 57 overall in win over Kansas (9/26), adding a 19-yard reception ... had 10 carries at Penn State (9/19), adding an 11-yard reception ... rushed six times for 23 yards versus Washington State (9/12) and added a reception ... started the season opener against Norfolk State (9/5) at running back and rushed 15 times for 82 yards ... voted a captain by his teammates (8/21) ... rejoined team on practice field at the start of summer camp (8/10) ... named to the Doak Walker Award watch list (7/16), which is presented annually to the nation’s top running back.

2014 (Redshirt Junior): Starting running back for the first four games of the season ... recorded 363 yards on 63 carries (5.8 per rush) ... registered five rushing touchdowns and two receiving scores ... one of 27 in the program to be named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team (12/10) ... totaled 96 yards and one score on seven carries before suffering season-ending injury at Navy (9/20) ... ran for 51 yards against Penn State (9/13) ... led the nation with six total touchdowns through two weeks ... the six scores were the most for a Rutgers player in the first two weeks since J.J. Jennings had eight to start the 1973 season ... totaled three touchdowns (two receiving, one rushing) in the home opener versus Howard (9/6) ... had 100 receiving yards against the Bison, including a 69-yard touchdown off a swing pass, to become first RU running back with that many since Jim Cann versus Temple in 1989 ... rushed for 173 yards on 29 attempts with three touchdowns (1, 56, 3) at Washington St. (8/28) ... scored go-ahead touchdown with 3:24 remaining ... entered the 2014 season as the starting running back.

2013 (Redshirt Sophomore): Appeared in nine games with eight starts ... led the team with 881 rushing yards and nine touchdowns ... named First Team All-American Athletic Conference ... led the conference with 97.9 rushing yards per game ... became the first RU running back to earn first-team all-conference since 2007 (Ray Rice) ... rushed for 48 yards on 10 carries against Notre Dame in the Pinstripe Bowl (12/28) ... carried the ball 26 times on the way to 113 yards on the ground and two touchdowns versus USF (12/7) ... named to American Athletic Conference Honor Roll (12/9) ... rushed for 49 yards on 11 carries at UConn (11/30) ... scored seventh touchdown of the season from one yard out at UCF (11/21) ... ran for 78 yards on 19 carries returning back to the field versus Cincinnati (11/16) ... rushed 17 times for 80 yards against Arkansas (9/21) before leaving early due to injury ... also had three receptions in the win ... led the nation in rushing yards after the first three weeks of the season (493) ... ran for 192 yards and three touchdowns (13, 55, 52) in win over Eastern Michigan (9/14), averaging 9.1 yards per carry ... named to American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the efforts (9/16) ... rushed for three touchdowns (1, 10, 25) and 119 yards in first career start against Norfolk State (9/7) ... named to American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the performance (9/9) ... broke out in season opener with 182 rushing yards on 22 carries at Fresno State (8/29) ... ran for 164 yards in the third quarter, including runs of 65 and 55 yards ... made presence felt at the beginning of spring drills at the running back position before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the practices ... named to American Athletic Conference All-Academic Football Team.

2012 (Redshirt Freshman): Saw first carries of his career at Pitt (10/24), gaining 22 yards on five attempts ... appeared in the Russell Athletic Bowl vs. Virginia Tech (12/28), but did not record any statistics ... member of the Big East All-Academic Football Team.

2011 (Freshman): Did not see game action ... redshirted ... joined the Rutgers football program as a walk-on.

Prior to Rutgers: Four-year varsity starter at Glassboro High School for head coach Herb Neilio ... competed as a running back and linebacker ... Glassboro was an outstanding 44-4 and won three state championships in James' four years ... selected to play in the Adam Taliaferro Foundation All-Star game ... Second Team All-South Jersey selection by the Philadelphia Inquirer and a Second Team All-Courier-Post pick ... earned First Team All-Group I and all-league honors as well ... finished as the second-leading rusher in school history with nearly 3,300 yards ... rushed for 1,182 yards with 12 rushing touchdowns and averaged nearly 10 yards per carry in an injury-plagued senior season ... tallied 1,730 yards his junior campaign ... guided Glassboro to a 10-2 record and a state championship his senior season ... Bulldogs finished 10-2 and reached the state semifinals his junior season ... four-year standout in track in the 100, 200, 4x100 relay team, triple jump and long jump ... earned all-county honors in the triple jump ... 4x100 team earned all-state honors his sophomore season.

Personal: Brother, Ronnie, is a freshman on the Rutgers football team ... brother, Christian, is attending Wesley College for football ... an information technology and informatics major.
