PJ Mullen

PJ Mullen joined Rutgers Athletics in the summer of 2021 and serves as Senior Associate Athletic Director of Marketing, Game Presentation and Fan Experience. Prior to his current role, he was the Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing for Rutgers Football.

A member of the athletic department’s Senior Leadership Team, Mullen brings over decade of producing and directing live events at the professional and collegiate levels to Rutgers and oversees the marketing and game presentation departments while serving as the department’s administrator for The Marching Scarlet Knights. He and his team lead the in-game production and Rutgers game day experience for all 24 sports, among other duties. Mullen and his team also created and oversee The Rutgers Boardwalk and The Rutgers Winter Village and work directly with the spirit and mascot programs.

Previously, Mullen served as Penn State’s Director of Marketing for nearly five years. He directed/produced/emceed football game days at Beaver Stadium and oversaw marketing efforts and in-game production for football and the men’s basketball team. In addition, Mullen provided oversight of the department’s internship program, pre-game shows, live events and led several on-campus student groups. Mullen was also an adjunct professor with Penn State’s College of Communications for nine years during his time in Happy Valley.

From 2007-14, Mullen was in the radio industry both on the air and as a program director in large and small markets, as well as a producer for a national talk show. Mullen joined the Penn State football staff in the fall of 2014 as Director of Player Development and Community Relations and was part of the 2016 Big Ten championship.

In addition to his duties at Rutgers, Mullen is a freelancer for the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles with their live game day production teams.

A native of Media, Pennsylvania, Mullen graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2007. He resides in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, with his wife, Alex, their daughter, Amelia, and their dog, Louie.
