Scott Scherer was hired as the Director of Basketball Administration in August 2022 and enters his fourth season in the role and tenth with the Rutgers men’s basketball program. He previously spent two years as a graduate assistant and four years as a student manager, serving as head manager for his final two seasons.
In his current role, Scherer works closely with the coaching and support staff in all aspects of the program, including film breakdown, opponent scouting, practice execution, and administrative operations. He also manages and oversees content and social media across all Rutgers men’s basketball platforms daily.
Scherer has been a key behind-the-scenes contributor to the Scarlet Knights’ success over the past decade. During his tenure, Rutgers returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2022, marking the first time the program earned consecutive NCAA appearances since 1975-76. The 2020-21 Scarlet Knights made history as the first RU team since 1990-91 to clinch an NCAA Tournament berth and the first since 1982-83 to reach the Round of 32 with a victory over Clemson.
Scherer earned his undergraduate degree in Finance from Rutgers University in 2020, graduating with a 3.57 GPA and Dean’s List honors. He also holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Adult and Continuing Education and Teaching. He gained additional experience as an NCAA camp manager at the 2019 UConn NCAA camp, as head runner for Team Tournaments with Hoop Group, and as a coach at the Super Soph Camp.
A native of Manalapan, New Jersey, Scherer played varsity basketball in high school and was a member of the National Honor Society at Manalapan High School.
