Jalen Miller (6-foot-2, 220 lbs) is one of head coach Steve Pikiell’s best defenders on the 2022-23 Scarlet Knights roster. Pikiell leaned on Jalen Miller on the defensive end, subbing him in for a spark off the bench due to his tireless effort contesting the opponents’ best players.

Miller has been extensively working on his jump shot through the offseason and hopes to contribute on both sides of the ball. Pikiell has called Miller his second-best perimeter defender behind reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Caleb McConnell. Pikiell thinks that Miller can reach the defensive heights of McConnell in his future with the Scarlet Knights. Miller approached the coaching staff during his freshman season last year and told them he did not want to redshirt and would rather contribute right away to the Scarlet Knights.

2022-23 (Sophomore): 

• Saw action in 23 games
• Career-high six points against CCSU. 
• Had nine assists and four steals

2021-22 (Freshman):  

• High-energy defender provided spark to team on defensive end
• Made career-debut in the victory at Jersey Mike’s Arena against Clemson
• Had career-bests two steals and four points against Nebraska

Scholastic:

• Earned Dean’s List honors during his freshman season at Rutgers for having a GPA over 3.5 with over 12 credits during his first semester.
• Averaged 15 points, 10 assists and 5.5 rebounds as a junior
• Ranked as high as No. 235 in the nation and the No. 42 point guard by 247 Sports
• Number three ranked player in Maryland by Prep Hoops
• Consensus three-star prospect

• Chose Rutgers over 17 reported scholarship offers
• Miller enjoys riding the electric scooters on the Rutgers University campus
