PISCATAWAY, N.J. - It will officially be a battle of two top-10 teams on Sunday night at High Point Solutions Stadium. Rutgers men's lacrosse moved back into the top 10 of the national rankings, coming in at No. 9 in Monday Inside Lacrosse/Maverik
Media Poll. The Scarlet Knights (7-2) will host No. 6 Johns Hopkins (6-2) on Sunday night at 7 p.m. That game will be televised nationwide on Big Ten Network.
"As a player, you want to test yourself against the best, and play at the highest level," head coach
Brian Brecht said. "As a coach, you want to compete for championships. All the hard work, all the practices, the recruiting, the preparations, its all to be able to have success in the big games that you get a chance to play. We have a big game on Sunday. The whole month of April is big. We have five Big Ten games coming up where we'll control our own destiny for postseason play if we play well for those 60 minutes. We're in a good spot right now, but we have to continue to play well."
Rutgers defeated Delaware 15-10 on Saturday night, moving up two spots in the poll. Johns Hopkins earned a comeback victory at then-No. 10 Virginia, moving up three spots to No. 6.
RU's seven wins include victories over three currently ranked teams - No. 10 Syracuse, No. 14 Robert Morris and No. 17 Lehigh. RU also defeated St. John's, who is receiving votes this week.
Also remaining on the schedule is No. 15 Michigan (home on April 8), No. 2 Maryland (on the road, April 15) and a pair of teams receiving votes in Penn State and Ohio State.
The last time that Johns Hopkins visited Piscataway, Rutgers earned
a 16-9 win over the No. 9 Blue Jays in front of 3,653 fans.
Rutgers is 19-1 at home in its last 20 games. Tickets for Sunday night's game are available
here. It will be a red-out, with red Rutgers t-shirts given away to the first 500 fans.
"I think we're in a good spot after finishing off the nonconference slate pretty strong," senior attackman
Jules Heningburg said. "We definitely battled some adversity, but we're in a good spot heading into Big Ten play. We're going to work hard this week to get prepared for this game. This is why you come to play college lacrosse, these kind of big time games. It's all about embracing the moment and just playing one play at a time."
