Rutgers Falls to Syracuse in Five Games

The match was just one in a long line of competitive matches between Rutgers and Syracuse, as the past eight matches in the series have gone at least four games. Four of those matches have gone to a fifth game.
In the match, Rutgers was led by senior Lauren Venarchik (West Chester, PA), who nearly doubled her career high in kills, recording 23, surpassing her previous high of 12. Venarchik also tied a season high with six block assists in the match. Also establishing a career high was Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA), who posted 25 digs to surpass her previous best of 24. Junior Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) added 19 kills and 23 digs for the Scarlet Knights, while Pualani Tuyay (San Diego, CA) had 63 assists, one less than her career high.
Syracuse was led by Kristen Conway’s 13 kills and 16 digs, while Kelly Duan added 18 digs and nine kills.
Rutgers will return to the road for the next two matches, at BIG EAST Conference foes Miami on Fri., Oct. 11, and at Virginia Tech on Sun., Oct. 13. The match with the Hurricanes will start at 7 p.m., and the Virginia Tech match will begin at 2 p.m.
