Rutgers Falls to Pittsburgh 3-2

Rutgers came out strong and took the first two games, 30-25 and 30-27. The Scarlet Knights had chances to put the match away in the third game, a game that included 11 ties. RU reached match-point twice, but couldn’t put Pittsburgh away as the Panthers took the game, 34-32. Pittsburgh rode the momentum from that game and won the next two, 30-27 and 15-12.
The match was highlighted by Pualani Tuyay (San Diego, CA) posting her 1,000th assist of the season, and Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) recording her 1,000th career kill. Tuyay had 60 assists in the match, and now has 1,043 this season, which is the sixth-highest single-season total in RU history. Bush had 23 kills in the match and now has 1,005 in her career, which ranks sixth on the RU career records list.
In addition to her 60 assists, Tuyay added 11 kills and 10 digs to record her first triple double of her season, and second of her career. Bush also contributed 22 digs in the match to tally her 15th double-double of the season. Lauren Venarchik (West Chester, PA) tallied 17 kills and three total blocks (1 solo, 2 assists), while Stephanie Travioli (Arlington, TX) had 12 kills and 12 dig, to record her third double-double of the season.
Pittsburgh was led by Megan Miller’s 20 kills, Carrie Norris’ 66 assists and Megan McGrane’s 24 digs.
Rutgers will play another BIG EAST Conference match at home on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. against West Virginia.
